Are there activities available besides classes?

Get your heartbeat up with latin dance lessons or your mouth watering making pepian in our Guatemalan cooking classes. We believe that students can learn almost as much outside of the classroom as in it, which is why we offer our students a number of fun, educational activities sure to enrich their experience. You will never be bored here! Socializing and making friends with people from different countries, you can also participate in optional low-cost two-to-three hour tours arranged by the school; if you wish, your teacher can accompany you during school hours. And from the antiquity of Antigua--the second capital of New Spain in the 16th century era of Spanish Conquistadors--some students trek on their own for weekend biking tours, volcano-climbing and visiting Mayan historical sights in the awesome natural beauty of The Land of Eternal Spring. At Guate-Linda we have organized activities such as salsa dance classes-no charge-and others. Among popular events are cooking demonstrations of typical Guatemalan dishes, and students also have the opportunity to prepare a dish from their own country for others to sample and savor—all in the name of fun, of course. Some students supplement their studies by volunteering for humanitarian projects, also practicing their new Spanish language skills. These are offered in indigenous communities, orphanages, hospitals and other health care outlets, teaching, agricultural, and others. We can get you connected with project coordinators. How effective are Guate-Linda’s classes?

Everyone that studies at Guate Linda Language Center leaves with their language goals met or surpassed. We adapt and evolve our classes to meet the specific needs of each student, ensuring a productive and fun experience. More quickly than you could have imagined, your sojourn in Guatemala will come to an end. With the delight of your newfound knowledge of Spanish and an enrapturing cultural experience to be cherished forever, you undoubtedly will have bittersweet feelings about leaving.
